Concrete Screed – We got it handled!

Screeding Concrete

It’s the process I hated to do the most, in an art I absolutely love. I loved working concrete but was getting so tired of the old way, working it while bending over with a 2″ x 4″ … Every time I would screed concrete I would ask myself, “Why doesn’t someone come up with a better way?” I use a 2″ x 4″ most of the time for screeding concrete but also tried all other methods, only to find I had as big or bigger complaints with them. Not that they are all bad, they just didn’t always fit what I was doing…..My “Go To” tool was always the simple wood 2″ x 4″. So, I set out to design a tool that would become my next “Go To” tool with most or all of my complaints removed from the equation. It wasn’t easy and I found out right away why it hasn’t been done yet.

This was eventually going to be a project I would question myself on, but because of my stubborn nature I was able to stay on this project for 6 years, believe it or not. I didn’t do this full time but it pretty much was a daily grind at solving the puzzle. I made 5 prototypes. Some with the help of others and I can’t tell you how many sketches and drawings I’ve done….I don’t even draw very good, as a matter a fact I can’t draw at all and some of my solutions to this puzzle were because of my bad drawings and trying to figure out what they were. (true)

I’ve used many vibrating screeds and basically had the same problem from all of them…Even though they were helpful on certain projects, they were too heavy. I was going to do more work getting the tool in place to work it, fuel it and then put it away after cleaning it that it wasn’t worth the work. Bending over with my 2″ x 4″ was more appealing oddly enough.

Have you ever added a couple “handle” grade stakes to a 2″ x 4″ for screeding help? Although it allows you stand a little, it quickly looses power to pull and control concrete.

I’ve used so many tools on the market for screeding that I started feeling like a framer hammering a nail with a rock.

Some of the problems I wanted to solve were……

I wanted to stand up! Or at least stand up a little more then the full bend while pulling the heavy concrete. I’ve seen to many back injuries over the years doing this.

I wanted it to accept a wooden 2″ x 4″, and be able to use an aluminum/magnesium screed bar as long as the width is 1 1/2 inches. (Not for the wider, it gets too heavy.)

I wanted (this one was hard) it to make the concrete easier to pull. (I knew I needed to compound the effort being used.)

I also wanted speed…. I put this on the back burner because if I figured out how to fix the above problems I knew speed was a freebie. :-)

I wanted it to be as light as possible….Who needs more weight in concrete?

I wanted to use the best material possible for it to be easy to clean and almost unbreakable.

I wanted a tool that could be split up with more than one configuration…I wanted to have a one or two man operating system.

I also wanted to have a vibrating option if it was needed while keeping all the benefits mentioned above.

I also wanted this “Go To” tool to be adjustable for everyone. Tall, short, fat, skinny and even ugly…yes, ugly! The tool needed to make you look good too.

After spending lots of Time, Money, Frustration and many Free Weekends I did it! I solved the puzzle (all of it!!)…..Not only did I solve it, I gained more benefit then I set out to gain. Some of the problems I wanted to solve that I thought would be near impossible turned out to be better than my target.

We’re Patented and gearing up for marketing so YOU can have the same problems solved. Its going to be a great day!
